The Neighbourhood
Linda Vista is one of Pasadena's most distinguished and expansive residential neighbourhoods. Bounded by Oak Grove Drive to the north, Colorado Boulevard to the south, the Pasadena–Glendale border to the west, and Linda Vista Avenue to the east, the area is defined by generous lot sizes, mature tree canopy, and sweeping hillside topography that affords long views across the San Gabriel Valley.
Design Intent
Drawing on the language of the Wildcoast House — three distinct pavilions unified by consistent materiality — the Linda Vista project proposes a residence that balances openness with retreat. Three textured masonry volumes, each bounding a separate wing, converge around a central circulation spine, referencing the movement through the natural landscape of the site.
Freeform floor tiles and warm timber-lined ceilings carry the palette of the surrounding environment into the interior, while flexible spaces are designed to expand for multigenerational living and contract for occasional private retreat. Northern light is framed through sheltered breaks, and the plan steps subtly across the terrain, responding to the natural contours of Linda Vista's hillside setting.
